Water use in Waipa district has hit a record high for December, prompting a move to Water Alert Level 3 - effective immediately.

Waipa District Council is warning further water restrictions will be necessary if residents don’t start cutting back their water use.

Hamilton, Waikato and Waipa are now all on Water Alert Level 1.

The move to Water Alert Level 1 was triggered by a significant increase in water consumption across the region.

Water restrictions have been lifted today across Hamilton City, Waikato District and Waipa District.

All water restrictions in Hamilton and Waikato District and part of Waipā will be lifted from today (20 March) following recent rain and the sustained water use across the region.
