A forecasted hot and humid summer is concerning water suppliers in the Waikato, prompting a watchful eye on Lake Taupo water levels.

After a tough summer, water restrictions have been lifted across Hamilton, Waipā and Waikato today.

Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Ohaupo and rural surrounds can breathe a sigh of relief as water alert levels drop to level two on Wednesday 25 March, allowing outdoor watering for the first time since 12 February.

Car washing, hosing and pool top-ups will be banned in Te Awamutu, Pirongia, and Ōhaupō as of Wednesday 12 February.

Council is now ramping up efforts in order to get residents and commercial businesses to conserve as much water as possible.
