Water use in the Waikato is expected to rise, with the coming summer forecast to be one of the hottest on record for New Zealand.

Hamilton city and Wāipa district communities have done a great job playing their part in using water efficiently this summer with water alert levels set to be lifted from Friday 19 March.

A call to save water over the long weekend hasn’t held off the move to Water Alert Level 2 for Hamilton city and parts of Waipā district.

With the highly-anticipated Auckland Anniversary and Waitangi Day long weekends happening in the next two weeks, so too is an expected surge in water use.

Hamilton and Waipa will move to Water Alert Level One restrictions from Thursday 17 December 2020.
