Dry conditions and increased demand have forced Council to move to Alert 3 this Friday, only 11 days since water alert level 1 was put in place.

Water restrictions have started in Waipā with Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Kaipaki, Ohaupo and surrounds moving to Alert Level 1 on 20 January.

The increasing summer heat and demand for water has led to Hamilton moving to Alert Level 2 on Tuesday 14 January.

Over the past month, despite some rain, there has been a significant increase in water demand due to the warmer weather.

Water restrictions have been lifted across Hamilton today.
